HyperLoop Scale Model What is the best scale factor ?

Tubing ..... obviously smaller diameter tubing is cheaper , and easier to handle.  Tubing comes in standard sizes, so it would be awkward to propose a scale model that did not work with a standard size tubing.  Metal tubing may be cooler but I think plastic ABS ( black ) tubing is so easy to work with.  Gluing , cutting , machining are done with ease.  I am fairly sure that ABS tubing will work successfully all the way to a full vacuum.  The maximum pressure the tubing will have to withstand is 100KPascals ( 14 psi ) .

2 inch diameter tubing is cheap.  The capsules may be too hard to build.
4 inch diameter tubing may allow for easy to build capsules.

Simulating the HyperLoop

The purpose of this post is to discuss applications that will allow the simulation of various aspects of the HyperLoop design.

Experimenting with evacuted tubing

I propose building a small diameter tube test-bed with easily obtained parts.
I think such a test bed should be modular and no piece should be longer than 3 meters.
Many kinds of pipe come in 3 meter lengths in the USA.

ABS ( black ) plastic pipe is easy to glue, cut and machine.
This pipe comes in 2 , 3 and 4 inch diameters.
For a low budget test bed , 2 inch pipe comes in at $7.30 per 3 meter chunk.

I would want to pump it down to at least the level proposed by EM.  That is 100Pa ( Pascals ) or .015 PSI.

Overview The many positives of the HyperLoop project

I am very gung-ho regarding the HyperLoop project promoted by Elon Musk.

#1   Suggests much more effective ways to design and build projects than going the massive governmental approach.   Governmental approaches have the following defects.....  SOPM ( spending other people's money ) , constant moving target , enevitable corruption,

#2   HL provides a great chance to test crowd-based design on a grand scale.

#3   HL provides a great chance to test crowdfunding on a grand scale.

#4   HL provides a new way of thinking about right-of-ways

This article 2013m08d27   suggests EM may build a demo version

I am going to suggest to EM that he set up some contests.
